About : 

  • Ryukyuyamagame (Geoemyda spengleri japonica) breeds only in Okinawa Main Island. Though fresh water reptile, it rarely gets into water and lives in the woods. It feeds on earthworms, underground worms, buds, seed and nuts. About 10 cm long, the carapace is oblong and serrated bearing three stripes of narrow vertical protuberance on it. It is also called Yanbarugame in Okinawa Main Island. Designated as natural monument on June 26, 1975.
