About : 

  • Sungdare Sherpa was born in 1956 in Pangboche village of Solukhumbu district, Nepal. He was the first Nepali to climb Mt. Everest several times.
  • Obsessed with the zeal of mountaineering, Sungdare Sherpa took up expedition as a profession since his early life. He scaled Everest for the first time in 1979. Since then his victory over Everest were reported in succession in 1981, 1982, 1985, and 1988. His last success was with NepalChinaJapan friendship expedition team.
  • He was decorated by HM the King the Suprasiddha Prawal Gorkha Dakshin Bahu and Jyotirmaya Suvikhyat Trishakti Patta.
  • Sungdare Sherpa died of an accidental fall in Imja river of his own village on 17th of October 1989.
